Match the range to the actual work
Accuracy is normally quoted as a percentage of full scale, so working at 10% of range multiplies the relative error tenfold. Where the test range is wide, use a dual-range arrangement or change transducers rather than covering everything with one oversized unit.
Alignment and couplings
Shaft misalignment applies bending moments and axial force to the transducer, producing a speed-dependent systematic error and shortening bearing life. Use double-diaphragm couplings to absorb residual misalignment, and set radial and angular deviation inside the manufacturer's limits with a dial gauge or laser aligner. On high-speed benches, also check the coupling's balancing grade and critical speed.
Calibration and verification
Transducers should be calibrated on a cycle, typically annually, with the certificates retained. Beyond that, set up a routine on-bench check: static verification with a calibrated lever and dead weights, or a periodic re-run of a reference motor with known efficiency. Drift then shows up when it happens, rather than when a customer questions the data.
